So to set the story straight I am a geek, with a capital GEEK, and proud of it. Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, D&D, comics, gaming, books and conventions my list is endless.
I've been a geek all my life but never realised how many like minded folks there were out there until I started podcasting. Next to my writing, my podcasting is something I'm very passionate about. Every time I hit record on an episode it reminds me that there's nothing wrong or embarrassing when you're doing something you love, which brings you joy.
It was 2006 and most people, myself included, had never heard of the term podcast. It was my best friend David Montieth, who came up with the idea of starting one.
After I had moved out of London, a few times a year, Dave and I would have these lengthy phone conversations putting the world of geekdom to rights. We would discuss, argue and laugh over the comics, books, TV shows and films we were reading and watching.
One day Dave announced "B mate we should take these chats we've been having and turn them into a podcast."
"Great," I reply. "What the hell is a podcast?"
Fifteen years later and our podcast, Geek Syndicate and its network of podcasts, is still going strong. Over the years I've reviewed more TV, films, comics and books than I can count. We've hosted panels at conventions around the country.
All of which led to being asked, along with Dave, to host two documentaries for the BBC iPlayer.
“a dynamic duo of fanboys who have taken the step of opening their pub banter style dissection of all things superhero, sci-fi and cult to the internet.”- Birmingham Mail
